My niece Jessie shared a special story with me the other day. She said it was her turn to lead the morning prayer with her junior high students at school and she was real anxious about what she was going to say and share with them. Then she remembered that it was coming up on Dr. Seuss's birthday and she wondered how she could tie this into her morning devotion with the girls. Well, low and behold, she finds out in her research that the great Dr. Seuss had been rejected by publishers 42 times before he was finally published!! FOURTY TWO TIMES!! Today, you would be hard-pressed to find a young family that doesn't have at least one Dr. Seuss book in their home!! This led Jessie into her faith talk. She began by asking the young girls. . . "just how much faith do you suppose Dr. Seuss had to have to keep going?" They unanimously agreed. . . "A LOT!! He must have had a lot of faith to keep going." "Do you think this is what we need to have? Is this what God is asking of us?" she asked the girls. They answered, "Most certainly, a lot of faith. . . this is what we need." At that point, Jessie pulled out a bag of tiny little mustard seeds, and handed one to each girl. "This", she said, "is all God asks. This is all God needs, just a tiny bit of faith, and He will take care of the rest." What a wonderful way to remind those beautiful young girls what our good Lord asks of us. We are so accustom to working hard, pushing ourselves, expecting excellence from ourselves and others, that I think we forget that our Lord is just asking for a tiny bit of faith. If we just give Him the littlest bit, He will take care of the rest. At that point, she shared our GPK Mustard Seed episode with them! She said they smiled and laughed and sang the song all day!
No matter what our age, no matter where we are in our spiritual walk, we all need to be reminded from time to time, that our good Lord, our Abba, is waiting in love for us to give Him a mustard seed of faith. During these last few weeks before Easter, let's lift and open our hearts to our Heavenly Father. Let's offer Him our tiny bit of faith and trust that He will bring it to Resurrection Faith by Easter.
God bless,
lisa
